ANZAC Discoveries

Room 3 have been learning about our brave ANZAC soldiers. We have been reading plays and journals about the Anzacs.

We read about the story of the Anzac biscuit and how to make them. Anzac biscuits were made by soldiers wives and their mothers, the recipe was created to ensure the biscuits would keep well during the long journey to loved ones fighting abroad. The recipe is said to have come from a Scottish oat cake recipe sometimes the biscuits arrived very hard so soldiers made Anzac biscuit porridge. We tried this by adding warm water to biscuits, some of us liked it a lot but others thought it was yuck!

We also learned about the medals soldiers were awarded and the significance of the Poppy Wreath. We made medals and poppy wreaths.

Lastly, we wrote Diamante Poems about the brave Anzac soldiers. Diamante Poems are all about verbs, nouns and adjectives. Here are some of our poems, we are very proud of them.
