Did someone says smores

How could we possibly turn down this opportunity - Year's 4-6 students away on camp, the school to ourselves.

Let's have some fun. Mrs O’Sullivan explained that we were going to go camping at school - day camping that is...  The Poihipi and Ohaaki teachers organised some activities that we could participate in.

Bird feeders - Mrs Sprague showed Room 12 how to make bird feeders using cereal, pipe cleaners and twigs from the gully. Unfortunately, I am not sure how many birds got to sample the tasty delights as the cheerio's were also very appealing to the children.

We found big sticks in the gully. Then we threaded crunchy cereal on the string. I hung mine in a big tree so the birds could eat it. (Alex)

Kite making - kite making with Whaea Margo was a great success. The children got to test their kites on the field after they had constructed them.

My kite was as red as an apple. It flew like a swirling raindrop. (Paige)

Bivi building - Mrs Jackson employed an expert Alan to support the students building shelters using branches from the gully and trampolines. They even got to enjoy a snack sitting under the bivi.

We built the bivi with Mr Jackson using a blue cover and metal sticks. I got to eat my yummy brain food in our bivi. (Caleb.S)

Camp fire - Mrs Foley and Mrs O’Sullivan, with Anaru’s assistance, created a traditional campfire. They designed special rods to toast the marshmallows safely over the fire. We made yummy smores by sandwiching warm, sticky marshmallows and chocolate between two biscuits

The smores were delicious. We toasted the marshmallows on the fire. They were sticky and warm to eat. Yummy (Jacob)

Scavenger hunt - Mr Morehu designed a fantastic scavenger hunt around the school complete with clues.

The treasure hunt was really fun. They were clues all around the school. We had to solve the clue and then mark our paper with special pens. My group worked really well together. (Paige)

Bike Taupo - Cath and her team from Bike Taupo supported the class in refining their bike riding skills. By the end of Room 12’s session, we had some expert riders ready to take on the Olympic games. It was great to see the perseverance shown by all the children.

The bike riding was a little tricky. I was a bit scared. The lady showed me how to balance and pedal really fast. I went on the special bike that didn’t move. Now I am really good at riding my bike. (Lilly)
