Room 8 has been learning how to create kites. We are learning to follow instructions, use a template to allow us to cut out our kite and attach the string to it, as well as managing ourselves for a period of time while we are creating a kite.
Mr Turquier came to school to especially help us make kites today. He explained how to make them step by step and the students followed his instructions. They all worked together and helped each other to complete this task and this was amazing to see.
Our parents were fantastic to join in to make the kites and help students to complete them so they could test them in the wind.
The kites were really easy to make fly. We had a few crashes and tangled lines during our test flights. However, we all enjoyed our awesome day of making and flying kites.

Lizzie - I loved creating the kites because. It was difficult to add the plastic bits on the sides and tie the nylon line. It was a lot of fun flying my kite.
Te Whetu - I had a fund day creating my kite. It was a bit tricky tying the fishing wire to the sides of the kite however, Mr Turquier had a secret weapon for strengthening the sides and making it a lot easier to tie off.
Kevin - I really enjoyed this activity and Mr Turquier was a great teacher. I loved running down the hill to fly my kite. The kite flew straight away and I didn’t have to make any changes to it.
