Science Makerspace Day

As part of our 'Change’ Inquiry Room 3 took part in a Science-based Makerspace Day.

Makerspaces are collaborative workshops where students gain practical hands-on experience with new technologies. Our classroom was set up into various stations and each station had a ‘change’ experiment for us to investigate, using a  P O E:

  • Predict (what do you think will happen?)
  • Observe (what did you see happening?)
  • Explain (find out the science behind the experiment).

We got to choose who they worked with and what experiments they tried.  Our focus has been on Chemical and Physical Changes in science.  Some of our experiments were physical changes and others were chemical changes. We have learnt that a physical change is when something changes its ‘form or shape’ but is still the same thing but a chemical change is when more than one thing mixes together and a reaction happens and sometimes something new is made.

Some of our experiments were making oobleck, making slime, making bouncy balls, making jelly, making plastic from milk, making hokey pokey and making a bouncy egg to name a few.

We had a whole science day it was amazing!

We recorded our thinking about Physical and Chemical Change’ using QR codes, here is Ben’s.

You can use a QR code scanner app to hear his ideas, or come into our class and use our iPads.
