We always enjoy taking part in School Kit projects. We have tried ‘Get NZ Writing’ and communicated with other schools around New Zealand. We took part in ‘How Connected Is New Zealand?’ where we wrote letters to famous New Zealanders. One of them even reached Julian Savea! But one of our favourite projects is the SVA - Student Volunteer Army. Last year, we did a clean-up in the village. This year, Room 5 students brainstormed and decided upon Kindness Boxes. This meant we could fill small boxes with all sorts of goodies - origami, pictures, cards, bikkies - and deliver them to those we thought needed some cheer.
Skylah and Nikea really got involved in their project, filling their Kindness Box with horse and kitten food, posters, cards, and origami dogs, all for the Taupo SPCA. They even made a couple of short iMovies promoting their cause. We were grateful to Nikea’s mum, Morag, who took us to the SPCA to deliver the goodies. Nikea’s brother Casey was a good little helper, too. He will be a great member of the SVA when he starts school next year.
Other boxes were delivered to retirement villages and were met with cheerful thanks. We were very proud of our efforts to give back to the community with our Kindness Boxes.
