I am loving working at Wairakei Primary School in a shared teaching position with Year 3 and 4 students. This is my third year sharing a class at Wairakei and I enjoy the dynamics that exist between our staff and, most importantly, with the children. I teach literacy to the students in Room 5 and have a passion for reading and writing.
I encourage the children to share their experiences with our class and to build relationships with each other. Showing an interest in what they love and having fantastic conversations helps to build great relationships and encourages children to be motivated and confident to share. This also encourages them to develop good work ethics and be team players. I am a talker and I relish being able to chat with our parents and community members to get to know our local whanau too.
I was born and raised in a farming community just out of Taihape and enjoy being back in a school with a country feel. I have taught off and on for the last 18 years around the Taupo district, having had time out of teaching when I had my two children. I am married to Stephen who is a teacher at Taupo-Nui-a-Tia College. We have a 5 year old son and a 3 year old daughter. Teaching part time is fantastic for me as it has given me the chance to have quality time with both my children before they reach school age and this precious time is gone.
I enjoy the activities that Taupo has to offer. Particularly the fantastic opportunities for me to indulge my passion of horse riding. I am a competitive show jumper and am just getting back into eventing. As well as getting outdoors I also like to spend time reading and having time with family.
Smiling is infectious,
You can catch it like the flu.
Someone smiled at me today,
And I started smiling too.
