I have had many varied jobs over the years but I have now found my niche. I have been involved with Wairakei Primary School for 20 years, firstly as a parent and 13 years as a member of staff. I started as a Teacher Aide and four years ago became the Librarian. I work predominantly in the Library but also support students and colleagues in the classroom.
My husband, Paul, and I have lived in Wairakei Village for 26 years. Paul has worked at Wairakei Power Station for 37 years. Our girls, Renae (25) and Morgan (23), were both students at Wairakei School, actually so was Paul for a short time.
I decided to complete some extramural study to assist me with my duties as a TA/Librarian, what a shock to the system that was. I now have Certificates in Computers and Teacher Aiding and recently completed a Diploma in Information and Library Studies. It has been the most amazing and rewarding experience. What next? Degree maybe?
Wairakei Primary School is the most incredible school. We all support each other in any way we can and are here for the betterment of our students. I am sure that what I have learnt in my study will help me in my work, both as a Librarian, and a Teacher Aide assisting our children and ensuring they remember their primary years as positive and enjoyable.
You are always welcome to call into the Library whenever you are in the School.
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.
