Sarah Lightfoot

I was luckily enough to join Wairakei Primary School in Term 3 2016.

I enjoy the ‘country’ school environment and being part of this supportive community. I am married to Mark and we have two gorgeous daughters who we are very proud of. Hannah is seventeen and Millie is twelve. I am originally from North Wales, my husband is from Gisborne, we moved to Taupo 15 years ago and have a business in town, The Lock & Alarm Centre. I love living in Taupo and all that this area offers. In my previous life I worked in travel and this is still a passion of mine. I enjoy cooking and entertaining and spending time at our family bach in Pukehina.

I came to teaching later in life studying through Waikato University as a MMP (Mixed Media Programme) student. I enjoyed the flexibility of being able to study at home with young children. I specialised in ICT and eLearning, these interests have continued within my teaching practice. I like to incorporate digital components to enrich the learning experiences for my students. I am currently studying through Unitec Mindlab, Postgraduate Digital and Collaborative Learning and Leadership. My learning is supporting my interest in STEAM learning(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths)  these subjects teach children to think critically and problem solve, skills that can be used throughout their life.

I really enjoy being a teacher and I believe my strength is relationship building, I genuinely love getting to know the children in my class and guiding them along their learning journeys. The best learning happens when students feel safe and supported. My focus is to build genuine respectful relationships to enable my students to feel confident to participate and accept challenges in their learning and to take risks.

Effort is one of those things that gives meaning to life. Effort means you care about something, that something is important to you and you are willing to work for it.
