Future Focused

Room 8 took part in Drawing the Future. Drawing the Future is a national survey from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) that asks students in Years 3 to 8 to draw what they think they’d like to do when they grow up.

We were sent templates that provided on one side a space to do a drawing and on the other asked us some simple questions such as ‘Do you know anyone who does this job?’ and ‘why would you like to do this job?’. This got our brains really thinking about the future and what we aspire to be when we grow up.

Lenox wants to be a farmer just like his dad and koro. When asked why he wanted to do this job he said “I like helping when on the farm and like working with animals”.

Isabella wants to be more than just one thing when she grows up, she wants to be a formula 1 diver and work for the SPCA. When asked why she said “so I can become famous and meet new people!”.

We spoke about how many people have multiple careers throughout their life, and that they average a number of jobs someone has in their lifetime is 12.

As a class, we all shared what we want to be when we grow up and found that people had many different ideas and reasons behind these. We had a real estate agent, actress, veterinarian, architect, photographer, YouTuber and more.
