Room 2 revisited the schools POWER values. Each student started by ranking their understanding of each value  from strongest to weakest. We presented our findings in the form of a classroom.

My work shows that I like skateboarding, basketball and the water.

My art shows that I like rugby and waterskiing.

Values that the class are strong in, form a solid foundation for us to build on. Weaker values create our roof and support columns. For each of us to grow as learners and people, all parts of our classroom need to be strong, we need to have  a strong understanding of all areas of POWER. That is why we are trying to grow in POWER on our journey together this year.

Room 2 identified whānau as an area we needed to know more about. Students thought it was all about people and after much brainstorming and discussion, we summarised our ideas about whānau under the heading One Team. To be part of one team, we need to learn about ourselves and others and help each other along the way.

To do this, each student had to show and tell the class about themselves in a piece of artwork. This is what some students had to share about their work.

I went to the beach with Austin and we jumped off the pontoon.

I like playing Hello Neighbour.

Thats my family and we went to Ohope. I like doing the waterslide when its up.

I went to the Kuratau Lagoon with my family and for Christmas we went camping.

My birthday is on January the 9th.

It has been pleasing to see that students are taking the time to build relationships with one another through work and play.

2024 Morehu

Paul Morehu

I am from Christchurch but moved to Taupō at the end of 2018. I am passionate about travelling with my most memorable trip being to Egypt. I also love keeping fit through sport, the gym and just getting out and exploring the outdoors.

I have been a qualified teacher working in New Zealand since 2013. Prior to that, I spent 8 years in Hong Kong working with Chinese children in primary schools.

I decided to pursue a career in teaching because I loved the idea of making a difference in the world by helping children learn and develop as people. It is rewarding to see the progress children make and to be a part of their learning journeys.
