We practised, we learned, we experienced success

Spellathon 2023 at Wairakei Primary School was a resounding success. Without fail, all students made progress and experienced success in their spelling. Now the funds are rolling in and the chance to purchase books for our students’ reading is increasing by the day.

Thanks must go to all parents and caregivers who have aided their children in learning their words for the spellathon. Thanks also to the parents who volunteered their time to come in and mark on the morning of our testing. Without the input from our families these events would be very challenging.

Our top spelling class with the most 100percent results was Room 7 with nine students scoring 100%.

Room 12 was in second place with seven students scoring 100 percent. All classes had much improved results from the pretest to the final test which reflected the learning that had occurred around these spelling words.

With the funds from the student’s sponsors starting to come in, the potential to purchase a number of high quality books for the book room is looking very promising. The aim is to upgrade the resources that we currently have to enable reading success for all students as well as providing a variety of reading materials and experiences through text.

I am passionate about our students, teaching and learning, particularly in the areas of literacy, digital technology, physical education, and the Arts. I believe that forming positive relationships with students and whānau are at the heart of success for everyone.

I enjoy Wairakei Primary School for the whānaungatanga and maanaakitanga where close connections between staff, students, and the wider Wairakei community are fostered and enjoyed.
